Building Connections: Inside the BAARC Mentorship Program

Did you know? AMA SF has been a proud collaborating partner of the BAARC mentorship program for four years running. Together with PRSA and sfBIG, we’ve built something truly special—an inclusive space where marketing and advertising professionals at all career stages can learn, grow, and forge meaningful connections.

Since BAARC launched this program in 2010, the mission has remained clear: create authentic learning opportunities that foster career growth, leadership development, and group dynamics. What started as a single organization’s vision has evolved into a powerful multi-organization collaboration that strengthens our entire industry community.

Yesterday’s Energy at PHD

There’s something special about watching professionals come together with a shared purpose: growth, connection, and community. That’s exactly what happened yesterday at our BAARC mentorship program session, held at PHD and generously sponsored by Media Now. This powerful 6-week initiative is transforming careers across the Bay Area’s marketing and advertising landscape.

While most program sessions take place online for accessibility, there’s undeniable magic when we gather in person. Yesterday’s session captured that energy perfectly, with mentors and mentees engaging in meaningful dialogue and building relationships that extend far beyond the program.

 

What Makes It Special

The curriculum addresses real challenges professionals face today: setting SMART goals, discovering strengths, speed mentoring, building personal brands, communication best practices, and mock interviewing. But what makes this program truly special isn’t just the content—it’s the people who show up with authenticity and commitment.

Participants also benefit from monthly Fireside Chats with industry leaders and open Office Hours with our mentor panel, ensuring learning continues throughout the journey.

December 10th: The Grand Finale

Our December 10th final event will bring the entire cohort together in person to reflect on growth, celebrate achievements, and honor the connections made. It’s a chance to see how far everyone has come—from that first meeting to confident professionals ready for their next bold steps.

About The Author

Thomas is the current President of the AMA SF.  In his current role, Thomas leads the integrated media team to drive strategy and media activation for his clients. Thomas brings a decade of experience working with Fortune 500 clientele across the agency, publisher and technology sides of the digital business in roles that include media, sales engineer and product marketing. Thomas has worked with a diverse clientele such as: Capital Group, Logitech, Workday, Puerto Rico Tourism Company, Hotwire, Microsoft, and many others. Further, Thomas is a part time professor at UCSC Extension teaching digital marketing related courses.
